Joseph Blackburn is to be the subject of a permanent memorial in Thornton.
The memorial, in the form of a cast-iron bench, will stand in the garden of the town’s Cenotaph, at Four Lane Ends.
It will be unveiled on Thursday, 28 June 2018, in a ceremony that will begin at 2.00pm.
The ceremony will also feature the unveiling of Centenary Bench, placed at the Cenotaph to commemorate the end of the First World War. It will feature contributions from descendants of Joseph Blackburn, from the Reverend Stephen Dunn and from a number of civic dignitaries, as well as a brief address from David Hewitt.
